TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Secretary of State Glenda E. Hood announces an exhibition by Tarpon Springs artist Kevin Grass entitled “A Sense of Place,” from October 20, 2005 through February 16, 2006, in the Cabinet meeting Room at the Florida Capitol. Kevin Grass sees his paintings as portraits of specific landscapes. “While many of my landscapes are rendered tightly, I do not mechanically record visual information. Much like a portraitist, I emphasize essential elements, while playing down or omitting distracting details. Nevertheless, I try not to dilute the sense that each painting represents a specific place with unique characteristics.” Initially, his landscapes were rendered in a manner reminiscent of the Impressionists. “However,” he says, “in the last few years, my landscape paintings have moved towards a more minute recording of visual information. In part, this development can be attributed to my study of Northern Renaissance art, which has also influenced a figurative body of work dealing with spirituality that I have been developing concurrently with the landscapes.” |
