Chairman Katharine Dickenson called the meeting to order at 9:02 a.m.

II. Introduction of Council, Staff and Guests

Mr. Judd asked the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and department staff to introduce themselves.

III. Adoption of Agenda

Mr. Ward moved approval of the agenda with Ms. Goldman seconding. The motion carried.

IV. Approval of Funding for Poetry Out Loud

Patty Warren reported that Poetry Out Loud is an annual program in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts. Students that have won their high school competitions from all over the state compete in Tallahassee. The winner competes at the National competition in Washington DC. The Division normally uses staff salary as matching funds to Federal grant money which provides for student travel, classroom materials, and other expenses. The Citizens for Florida Arts, Inc. has sponsored this event for the past several years. The Division requests that a grant be awarded to the Citizens for Florida Arts, Inc. to administer the funds for student travel and other expenses associated with this event.

Mr. Ward moved that a grant be awarded to Citizens for Florida Arts, Inc. for Poetry Out Loud with Ms. Goldman seconding the motion. The motion carried.

X. Open Council Discussion

Mr. Browning commented that it is a useful approach to connect the arts with tourism as an economic engine when talking to legislators. Ms. Dickenson encouraged council members to participate in Tourism day in Tallahassee on March 22nd. Ms. Benson volunteered to make a connection with Senator Don Gaetz, Chair of the TTED Appropriations Committee. Ms Warren will provide a one page list of all the Senate and House committees including their members.
