Workshops Offered for Visual Artists

The Division is excited to announce two workshops for Visual Artists that will take place in the Panhandle region of the state this May.  These workshops will be a fantastic opportunity for Visual Artists at any stage in their careers to gain valuable professional development tips on topics such as marketing, the business of being an artist, slide presentation and other concerns that artists face in their careers today. 

The workshops will be led by nationally-recognized consultant, Bruce Baker.  If you are interested in attending one of the workshops, please act now as advance registration is required. 

There is fee for attendance , however we do ask that you RSVP to let us know how many people to expect.

Individual Artist Fellowship Program Deadline is Approaching!

Its that time of year again for the Fellowship Program!  The annual June 1st deadline is coming up and the guidelines and application forms are now available on the Division's website!  Act now if you are interested in applying for this grant program.  This year, the Division is offering fellowship awards in the following disciplines only: Interdisciplinary, Folk Arts, Music, Dance, Theatre, and Literature.  The disciplines of Media Arts and Visual Arts will be eligible to apply again in 2007. 

Fellowship awards are either $5,000 or $2,500 and can be used to support the general career advancement of the artist.  For more information on the fellowship program or to download program guidelines and application forms, please visit this link: http://www.florida-arts.org/grants/fellowship/guidelines.htm.  You can also get more information about the fellowship program by contacting Morgan Lewis at the Division's offices, 850.245.6470. 


Artist Enhancement Grant Program Deadline Coming Up

The next cycle of the Artist Enhancement Grant Program is approaching with a deadline of July 15, 2006.  With this deadline come some notable changes in the way that the program will be run.  The Artist Enhancement Grant Program is moving to a quarterly application deadline each year that will coincide with the Quarterly Assistance Grant Program.  This change to the structure of the Artist Enhancement Program will hopefully help artists who are applying to be able to take advantage of activities that come up all of a sudden or without much notice. 

The application deadlines for the upcoming year are:

July 15, 2006
For the grant period of October 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007

October 12, 2006
For the grant period of January 1, 2007 - June 30, 2007

January 12, 2007
For the grant period of April 1, 2007 - June 30, 2007

Artist Enhancement Grants are awarded in the amounts of either $500, $750, or $1,000 and are used to support specific, career-building opportunities that will advance an artists work and careers.  For more information on the Artist Enhancement Grant Program, please contact Morgan Lewis at mblewis@dos.state.fl.us

The FAPN Workshop is Coming Up!

Small presenters and touring artists get ready and mark your calendars for this year's Florida Artists and Presenters Network Workshop!  A date has been set for May 18, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Mahaffey Theatre in St. Petersburg. 

The workshop is FREE with only a lunch fee required.  Details about the workshop are available at the following link on the Division's website: http://www.florida-arts.org/resources/conferences.htm.  This year, by visiting this link, attendees can register online for the workshop, see the agenda and get information regarding hotels in the area.  This annual opportunity will be full of valuable information and should not be missed!  If you would like more information on the Florida Artists and Presenters Network or the workshop, please contact Gaylen Phillips at the Division's offices.

The Division Announces Two Grantwriting Workshops For Individual Artists

The Division of Cultural Affairs is presenting two, free workshops for Individual Artists with information specific to the Division's Individual Artist Grant Programs: the Individual Artist Fellowship Program and the Artist Enhancement Grant Program.  The workshops are free and open to the public and will take place in Jacksonville and Naples.  Details about the locations, RSVP information and times can be found below.

The Cordova Historical Museum expands its annual celebration of Cordova's Fisheries Heritage by hosting a juried national art show entitles Fish Follies.  This show is open to all artists 18+ years old, working in all media.  The theme is anything fishy!  Oceans, water, fishing or seafood related.  For more information, please call 907.424.6665 or email museum@cordovamuseum.org.

Art & Community Visual Arts Residency Program presented by The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts. Theme: Motion, Journey, Transportation. How do we get from here to there?  Applications for the DCCA’s 2007-2008 Art & Community Visual Arts Residency Program are now being accepted. The call for entry with application guidelines are available on the following web site: http://www.thedcca.org/artists_oppts.html. During this residency program, artists make a full-time commitment to collaborate with an under-served community group to create artwork based on issues relevant to the participants' lives. The residency program is also geared to offering artists the time, space, and financial assistance to work on their own independent projects. In addition to a stipend, the DCCA provides selected artists with living accommodations/studio space for up to eight weeks. Public Art Opportunity in Pinellas County, FL. The Pinellas County Arts Council is currently advertising a call-to-artists for the creation of gateway entry markers in association with the Belleair Causeway Bridge. The budget for this project is $200,000 and the application deadline (postmarked) is April 24, 2006. Metro Arts Commission in Nashville TN seeks artists for three public art projects to infuse art into the design and architecture of the new Public Square, a four-acre park adjacent to the Metro Courthouse, which is currently undergoing major restoration. Project Budget: $350,000. Two of the projects, open to any artists in the United States, will be located in two adjacent quiet courtyards with seating areas, at the southern edge of the Square. The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Arts proudly present: Eat My Dust!, an exhibition and racing competition. Open to all artists, architects, designers, and other assorted gearheads from all over the Southeast to create and race "aesthetically-embellished" pinewood derby gravity racers (the small ones) against 300 cars (already made) from artists from New York. Call to Artists: Art Center Sarasota's 3rd Annual Florida Photography Juried Exhibition. Exemplary works will be awarded cash prizes in black and white as well as color photography. All art submitted must be the original work of the applicant and completed between 2003 and 2006. ArtCorps sends volunteer artists for one year residencies to Central America to creatively communicate social and environmental messages. We seek artists who speak Spanish and are able to work autonomously; we prefer experience with community art and travel. We are currently recruiting artists for January 2007. The Alice and William Jenkins Gallery at Crealde School of Art seeks proposals from mid-career artists working in all media for the 2006/2007 exhibition season. The Jenkins Gallery is visited by 7,000 people each year.
