DCA announces a NEW section of the website dedicated the fellowship recipients!!!

Thanks to a Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the new section of the website provides information about the Individual Artist Fellowship Program Recipients.  Through these pages you can view, read or listen to work samples from each of the fellowship recipients and read bios of each artist.  There will also be a searchable database where you can search for any past recipient by discipline, county or even by name.

To view the new pages, visit:
http://www.florida-arts.org/grants/fellowship/FellowshipRecipients.htm
.  Then click on each artist's name to view their individual page.

If you received a fellowship in 2005 and have not submitted materials for the pages, please send an email to Morgan Barr if you are still interested in participating.

Resources Available for Artists Affected by Hurricane Katrina

The Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) is an organization whose mission is "to strengthen and sustain the careers of craft artists across the United States."  CERF provides direct financial and educational assistance to craft artists, including emergency relief assistance, business development support, and resources and referrals on topics such as health, safety, and insurance. CERF also advocates, engages in research and backs policy that supports craft artists' careers.

Through the CERF website there are some valuable resources available online that can help artists of any discipline or medium access disaster relief programs and opportunities.  This resources page can be found at http://craftemergency.org/programs/prevention/preparedness

IMPORTANT LEGISLATION AFFECTING FLORIDA ARTISTS!!!

Florida Artists need to be aware of the Jessica Lunsford Act, new legislation that will affect any individual artist in the state who enters into any contract with a Florida school.

The Jessica Lunsford Act, effective September 1, 2005, will affect all artists who have contracts with school districts. The law requires a Level 2 Background Screening (this includes fingerprinting) to be completed by any person who will be on school grounds.

Although counties are encouraged to recognize screenings done in other counties, there is no requirement for them to do so. As a result, multiple screenings may need to be done if you are performing or working in school districts in multiple counties. The costs for these screenings may be borne by the school or the vendor and will require extra trips made to the county.

This is a new law and school districts are each working out their own methods of implementation. Below is the link to the Department of Education's website where you may read a Technical Assistance Paper prepared by DOE for the school districts. Information from the Department of Education can be found at: http://www.fldoe.org/news/2005/2005_08_19-2.asp
