Deadline Extended to Apply for Creative Capital Workshops

**Applications will be accepted until December 31, 2007 (postmark)**

The Division announces that it has extended the postmark application deadline for the day long Creative Capital Foundation Workshops Marketing and Promoting Your Work, for Florida's Individual Artists.  The workshop will be held in St. Petersburg on February 2, 2008.  Individual artists in all disciplines are encouraged to apply for this fantastic opportunity to learn marketing and promotional skills from the Creative Capital Foundation.  To download and complete the application, please visit this link: http://www.florida-arts.org/projects/ccworkshops/ccworkshop08.html.  (the application is available at the bottom of the page)

The Creative Capital Foundation is a nonprofit national foundation based in New York who's mission is to serve artists.  More information about the foundation can be found on their website at http://www.creative-capital.org/.  These workshops are a great opportunity for artists to learn valuable skills that will sustain their creative careers.  The February 2nd workshop is the first of two day long workshops that will be offered in 2008.  The second workshop will be held May 3, 2008 in Palm Beach County, Florida.  Details on the location and application information will be released as they become available.  If you have questions on the workshops or the Division's professional development opportunities for artists, contact Morgan Lewis, mblewis@dos.state.fl.us

January 12 Artist Enhancement Grant Program Deadline CANCELLED

The January 12, 2008 deadline for the Artist Enhancement Grants Program has been cancelled.  All available funding for the program was awarded for the last cycle of grants (application deadline October 12, 2007).  The next deadline for the program will be April 14, 2008.  For guidelines and program information, visit www.florida-arts.org

2006 Visual Arts Fellowship Exhibition Now On View in Miami

The 2006 Visual Arts Fellowship Exhibition is now on view in Miami at Miami-Dade College Kendall Campus Art Gallery.  The exhibition will be up until January 25, 2008.  The Kendall Art Gallery is located at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus at 11011 SW 104th Street in Miami.  For additional information, email galleries@mdc.edu.

Division Staff News

The Division is delighted to welcome our new Information Specialist, Joshua Youngblood.  Joshua is new to the Division but has been working with the Florida Mainstreet Program within the Department of State since May of 2007.  Joshua will be working on a variety of communications activities for the Division. We are very excited to have him on the DCA team!


 

 

Public Art Opportunities Deadline: December 31, 2007
Call to artists: Grounds for Art, a project produced in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Downtown District and the Cedar Rapids Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, is ready to expand previous public art works into a full size regional outdoor sculpture display in downtown Cedar Rapids. Madison, WI - The Madison Arts Commission is accepting applications from artists, design teams, or companies for a site-specific art work/fountain for the Frances Plaza as part of the State Street Design Project. Frances Plaza has been designated as a “special place” along State Street, the dynamic pedestrian/bus transit mall that joins the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the State Capitol, businesses and residential areas. This project provides an opportunity for an artist, design team, or company to create a site-specific water feature that affirms the character of Madison and celebrates Madison’s famed State Street. The Commission is seeking artists/design teams/companies with the following experience: 1) design and installation of outdoor art water features in extreme freeze/thaw conditions; 2) working in a collaborative effort with project design teams and engineers; 3) interest in creating a work that supports the goals and design elements of the State Street Design Project; and 4) Artwork that minimizes operational/maintenance costs and energy needs. The selected finalists will receive a fee for expenses related to developing a design concept for the project. Project Title: Environmental Sustainability Project
Location: Florida Botanical Gardens, Largo FL

The Pinellas County Cultural Affairs Department under the guidance of the Public Art and Design Committee is issuing a Call-to-Artists for Florida artists. Artists are invited to submit qualifications to compete for a community-based public art project that pertains to environmental sustainability.

The project is in cooperation with The Florida Botanical Gardens, located at 12175 125th Street North, Largo, Florida 33774-3602. The Gardens are a unique blend of Florida native plants and in both natural and formal gardens. 2008 Residency Season at the Artists’ Enclave at I-Park: I-Park announces its eighth season hosting The Artists’ Enclave. Artists’ residencies, self-directed/project oriented, will be offered from May through November 2008. Most sessions are four weeks in duration. Residencies will be offered to visual (including digital) artists, music composers, environmental artists, landscape and garden designers, creative writers and architects. Work samples will be evaluated through a competitive, juried process.  There is a $20 application processing fee required and artists are responsible for their own transportation to and from the area. They also provide for their own food and work materials. Call to Artists: Embracing Our Differences. This Juried Art Exhibit with Cash Awards will be displayed throughout the month of April 2008 at Island Park along Sarasota's beautiful bayfront. The exhibit will contain 39 bill-board sized (16 feet by 12 feet high) artworks. The exhibit will again be displayed in North Port, Florida throughout the month of May 2008. CALL TO FINE ART CRAFTERS: The Southwest Florida Craft Guild proudly announces the “Spring Forward” show at the Florida Craftsmen Gallery, 501 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, Florida 33701. This show runs from March 7 to May 11, 2008 and is open to all Florida Craftsmen members and non members of Region 7, which includes Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades county. Acceptable work includes handcrafted art created in wood, fiber, clay, glass, metal, paper, jewelry, sculpture and mixed media. A maximum of two (2) pieces per person saved in 300 dpi JPEG format, along with an artist statement, should be e-mailed to springforward@swflcraftguild.com.

The jurors will be the standards committee of the Southwest Florida Craft Guild. Digital images, photography or painting will not be accepted for the show. Fee for Florida Craftsmen and South West Florida Craft Guild members: $15 for the first piece and $10 for the second piece. Call to Artists: The Apple Valley Review, a semiannual online literary journal, is currently accepting submissions of poetry, short fiction, and essays for its Spring 2008 issue. Submissions are accepted year-round via e-mail. We prefer work that has both mainstream and literary appeal. All work must be original, previously unpublished, and in English. Please do not submit genre fiction, explicit work, or anything particularly violent or depressing. Also, please note that we do not accept simultaneous submissions. All published work is considered for our annual editor's prize. In this one day special session for Illustrators, you'll get the inside track on what makes your work stand apart when an art director is shopping for talent.
