Division News The Division of Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce that Erin Long, who has served as the Division's Information Specialist for the past four years, will now administer the Individual Artists Fellowship Program, the Capitol Complex Exhibition Program, and other programs that will help further promote and develop Florida's artists. The current fellowship program administrator, Todd Warlik, will continue to work with the program on an advisory capacity.

The Division is partnering with the South Florida Cultural Consortium to offer a new and exciting funding opportunity for individual artists! The Artist Enhancement Grant Program will assist practicing, professional and emerging artists residing in Florida through the awarding of mini-grants. The program will provide support for artists to take advantage of specific, professional development, skill-building opportunities to advance their work and careers. Applications will be accepted from all professional visual or performing artists working in any medium. More information on this new opportunity will be available on the Division's website later this summer!

Public Art Florida's Art in State Buildings Program announces its new Spring/Summer 2004 Call to Artists, containing descriptions of 7 new public art projects with submission deadlines in June, July & August 2004. With art budgets ranging from $10,900 to $100,000, the various art selection committees are searching for a wide variety of art, from interior artwork to large-scale outdoor pieces. Interested artists can view the new Call on the web at www.florida-arts.org - look under Programs. Those who would like to be notified about the posting of future Calls via postcard or email should join the Division's mailing list from the site's home page.

Established in 1990, Brevard County's Art In Public Places Program displays loaned art in a variety of media. Brevard Cultural Alliance manages this program on behalf of the County. The loaned work is exhibited for approximately 4 months and can be enjoyed at such diverse settings as the Brevard County Government Facilities, Melbourne International Airport, The Enchanted Forest Sanctuary, and Brevard Community College Planetarium. These sites provide twenty four individual exhibit spaces for employees and visitors to enjoy. For more information on this program, contact Lynne Brezina, public art coordinator, at (321) 690-6817.

The DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts invites artists to submit applications to exhibit in the 12th annual fine arts festival, to be held November 20-21, 2004. This year's festival will include 200 artists, live entertainment, exceptional food, a youth art exhibition, hands-on art for children, an artist's welcome party and $25,000 in cash awards. The Acrosstown Repertory Theatre in Gainesville, FL announces the opening of acceptance of plays for the "Jim Sunwall Prize." This competition is open to comedies of all persuasions. The winning play receives two staged readings on the theater's second stage in October 2004 with the winning playwright flown into Gainesville to attend the reading. Accommodations are also provided. Plays must be full-length and a comedy. Co-written plays are not eligible. Plays must be the original work of the playwright, and cannot be adapted from other sources, with the exception being if the adaptation is from other original material by the playwright. Plays must be received by July 1, 2004. Plays must be received in hard copy. If you wish your manuscript returned, please include a SASE. Please send scripts to: Acrosstown Repertory Theatre, P. O. Florida Craftsmen announces a call for entries for the
7th Annual Craft Art Fair, a national juried craft market celebrating contemporary craft, artists and the community, October 30-31, 2004, at the historic coliseum in downtown St. Petersburg. $20,000 in awards. Limited exclusively to 110 juried fine craft artists. Fine craft art is defined as work which utilizes either the materials and/or processes associated with fine craft art. Paintings, drawings, photography, printmaking and/or commercially made works are not eligible. The New York Foundation for the Arts recently launched the new NYFA Current, a free national e-publication. Since 1992, NYFA Current has provided the national arts community with news and analysis of important issues involving the people and culture the contemporary arts community. The newly revamped NYFA Current will continue the publication's history of reporting the latest news and happenings in the arts world, but with greater emphasis on the artists' voice. Practicing artists and critics from across the country will comment on trends and movements in the art world as they happen, with biweekly features, rants and raves on the contemporary scene, and artists' insider perspectives. The George Sugarman Foundation makes grants available for artists in need of financial assistance. Award amounts are open, but the artist must provide a budget for the amount requested. Margorie Kinnan Rawlings "Writing the Region" Workshop
Gainesville, FL

Aspiring and professional writers alike will have the opportunity to work with distinguished authors in many different genres at this five-day workshop, to be held July 21-25, 2004 in Gainesville, FL. Session topics will include writing historical fiction, nonfiction writing, mystery writing, playwriting, poetry, self-publishing, freelancing, characterization, writing with a sense of place and using observation skills to improve writing. Designing for the 21st Century- An International Conference on Universal Design
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Across the world, the movement is growing to make places, things, communications, programs and policies inclusive and welcoming to everyone across the spectrum of ability and age. The conference will have a special focus on cross fertilization between developed nations and the majority world. Cultural and arts organizations have been important practitioners and proponents of universal design. Currently accepting proposals for presentation (due February 15).
