NETWORK (FAPN) WORKSHOP
For Florida touring artists (or those who want to start touring) and Florida
presenters with houses of all sizes, the first annual sprint assembly
of the Florida Artists and Presenters Network will take place Thursday,
April 21, 2005, from 8:30 am-5:30 pm at Stage West, Duncan
Theatre, Palm Beach Community College, 4200 Congress Avenue, Lake Worth,
Florida. The purpose of this assembly is to bring Florida touring
artists and presenters together for education, networking, sharing and
inspiration. It is FREE! We just ask that you register in

GRANTWRITING
WORKSHOPS FOR INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS
The Division of Cultural Affairs will offer a series of free grant writing
workshops this April. The workshops are open to the public
and will provide information about the Division’s grant programs
for Individual artists, specifically the Individual Artist Fellowship
Program (deadline June 1, 2005) and the Artist Enhancement
Grant Program (deadline July 15, 2005). Workshops will take place
in the counties of Brevard, Palm Beach, Hillsborough
and in the Panhandle area. Exact dates and locations
will be announced soon. Please check our website at the end of March

Heritage Month 2005
Once again, the Department of State’s Office of Cultural and Historical
Programs will partner with the Office of the Governor to celebrate Florida
Heritage Month from March 15 to April 15. This annual
celebration raises awareness of the importance of our culture and heritage
to all Floridians. A commemorative poster with artwork by Christopher
M. Still has been sent to Florida schools, museums and libraries. Florida
cultural organizations are encouraged to join this statewide celebration
and promote Florida Heritage Month in their programs and to post their
events for free on the Florida Heritage Month Web site.

ENHANCEMENTS
This year, thanks to a Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment
for the Arts, the Division plans to expand its Web site to include an
entire new section on Individual Artists, with an emphasis on the fellowship
recipients. Visitors to this fellowship Web section will soon be able
to view biographies and photographs of 2004-2005 fellowship recipients
as well as view samples of their work and (when applicable) video or audio
samples. Each artist’s page will also include a link to the artist’s
Web site as well as pertinent contact information. A history of all previous
fellowship recipients is also planned. Look for this new Web section later
this summer.

2005 Performing Arts Exchange Showcase Accepting Applications. The
Performing Arts Exchange is the regional performing arts booking
conference for the Eastern United States. This years conference
is scheduled to take place, September 21-24, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Through attendance at this annual conference, presenters and artists
are able to: Develop business relationships for presenting artists
and attractions in communities throughout the Southern, Mid-Atlantic
and New England states. Exchange knowledge and understanding of
the performing arts industry through structured and informal networking
opportunities. Enhance artistic programming, technical knowledge

The Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL announces the following Master
Artist Workshop: Digital Fine Print George DeWolfe Friday, Saturday
& Sunday, April 8th – 10th 10am to 4pm, Levels 3-5 Course Code 1415
Maximum number of students: 12 This workshop teaches a simple workflow
for producing excellent digital fine prints on a consistent basis.
The emphasis on high quality, consistency and simplicity are the
hallmarks of this course. Subjects to be covered include monitor
calibration, setup for both black and white and color images, contrast
control, light enhancement and color correction. The simple 16-bit
Layer workflow is the backbone of process. The Epson 2200 printer,
along with the latest RIP and profiling software will be available
for demonstration and practice. The goal of this workshop is simple:
To show the student how to make outstanding black and white and
color prints using a computer and desktop ink-jet printer. George
DeWolfe has been a photographer since the mid-1960’s. He studied
with Ansel Adams, extensively with Minor White in the 1970’s, and
Perception with Dr. Richard Zakia. He holds an MFA in Photography
and Graphic Art from the Rochester Institute of Technology. DeWolfe
taught Zone System and Perception at The New England School of Photography,
The University of Idaho, and Colorado Mountain College. He initiated
the Appalachian Mountain Club Photography Workshop and teaches at
numerous workshops throughout the country and abroad. He has published
At Home In The Wild, a Friends of the Earth/Little Brown Exhibit
Format book, edited by David R. Brower, and contributed to dozens
of others He has had numerous one-man and group exhibitions and
is in several permanent collections. He is currently an advisor
to Epson and other digital and inkjet companies, Senior Editor of
ViewCamera and Camera Arts, and is Adjunct Faculty of Photography
& Graphic Art at the College of the Atlantic. Tuition: $450 members/$500

Project Creo: Center for Art and Design in affiliation with The
Arts Center, is currently seeking proposals from artist, for possible
inclusion in an exhibition entitled "Counterpoint" that will open
May14, 2005. The exhibition will focus on artist use of the element
of contrast in their work. The exhibition will run from May 14th-July
27th, 2005. The deadline for the submission of proposals is March
28, 2005. Proposals must contain the following information: ~Current
artist resume, including: address, phone number, email, and general
artist statement. ~Description of proposed artwork for Counterpoint,
including drawings or images of the proposed piece. ~10-20 slides,

The Plano Public Art Program is seeking an artist or artist team
to work with a design team in the development of the Thomas Muehlenbeck
Recreation Center. The selected artist or team will participate
in the overall design of the Center (an 80,000 sq. ft. facility
located on 16 acres) and will create one or more permanent artwork(s)
to be sited in a prominent location or locations throughout the
building complex. The project budget is $100,000 but the selected
artist or team will also be responsible for identifying one or more
additional opportunities for future artist involvement. These are
envisioned as smaller projects, with budgets between $10,000 and
$15,000, that can serve as entry level commissions for area artists.

The Town of Huntington (Long Island, NY) requests submission of
innovative proposals for seasonal public art installations in Town
Parks. While open to any U.S. artist, strong preference will be
given to artists of the region. Maximum of 5 projects to be selected

Ensemble Theatre Travel Subsidy Program. Arts Presenters has launched
a new $1.3 million project and travel grant program to encourage
collaborations between ensemble theatres and arts presenting organizations.
The Ensemble Theatre Collaborations Grant and Travel Subsidy Program
was created with support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation
as a two-year pilot initiative. Travel subsidy grants of up to $2,000
are now available to theatre directors, producers, presenters, managers,
artists and agents to see work by ensemble theatre companies who
have initiated a dialogue with them about a long-term partnership.
In addition, artistic, production, education, publicity or marketing
staff at ensemble theatre companies are eligible for funds to visit
a potential host theatre or arts presenter in order to effectively
prepare for an engagement at least 6-12 months in advance. For eligibility

Exhibition, "Art in the Barn, 2005" scheduled to be held Sept 24

Southeast Center for Education in the Arts, located at the University
of Tennessee at Chattanooga, seeks a Director of Dance Education
(POSITION OPENING STARTING SUMMER 2005) The Southeast Center for
Education in the Arts, located at The University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga, provides innovative professional development for elementary
and secondary school educators. The Director develops, writes, teaches,
and administers the dance component of the Center’s professional
development program in comprehensive arts education and arts integration.
Qualifications: Masters degree in dance education. Experience teaching
in public schools, writing curriculum, and designing professional
development. Administrative and fiscal management experience, and
ability to work with arts specialists, classroom teachers, administrators,
students, and parents. The Director should be knowledgeable about
comprehensive arts education, multicultural arts, and technology.
The salary range is $40,000 - $45,000. The University of Tennessee

Southern Arts Federation is conducting a nationwide search for a
new Executive Director
The Southern Arts Federation has employed the services of Martin
