Individual Artist Grant Programs
The Fellowship Deadline has passed! The response for the program has been wonderful- Hundreds of applications in the disciplines of Visual Arts and Media Arts have arrived at the Division offices and are being processed. Panel meetings for these fellowship applications will be held October 5th (Media Arts), October 6th (Visual Arts 3D), and October 11th (Visual Arts 2D). If you applied for a fellowship this year, you will be receiving a letter notifying you that your application is eligible and has gone to the panel in late August. Information about these panel meetings will soon be available on the Division's website: www.florida-arts.org.
The July 15th deadline for the Artist Enhancement Grant Program is rapidly approaching! If you have not already done so, download the application for the Artist Enhancement Grant Program from the Division's website: http://www.florida-arts.org/grants/ae/. This program is now being administered by the Division of Cultural Affairs in Tallahassee. If you received an Artist Enhancement Grant either of the last two times the program was offered- you ARE ELIGIBLE to apply again. Grant Workshops for Individual Artists Offered
In April and May the Division offered grant writing workshops for Individual Artists at 5 locations throughout the state. Over 180 individual artists attended total- a fabulous turnout! Each workshop offered information about the Individual Artist Fellowship Program and the Artist Enhancement Grant Program. If you were not able to attend a workshop and would like a copy of the handouts that were provided, please send an email request to Mhbarr@dos.state.fl.us to have them mailed to you!
Florida Artists Hall of Fame and Florida Arts Recognition Award Deadlines are Coming Up on June 30, 2005 (postmark date)!
Established by the Florida Legislature in 1986, the Florida Artists Hall of Fame recognizes persons, living or deceased, who have made significant contributions to the arts in Florida either as performing or practicing artists in individual disciplines. The individual may be a native of the state or one who adopted Florida as home. Recipients of this award demonstrate the diversity of artistic accomplishment that comprises the rich cultural tapestry of this state. The Florida Arts Recognition Award recognizes outstanding initiative, leadership, or excellence in supporting culture in Florida. Patrons, educators, or elected officials, or organizations such as arts groups or corporations who have demonstrated a significant contribution to the advancement of the arts, in any discipline or field, such as visual arts, performing arts, or arts education through either a lifetime commitment, or a recent major achievement, can receive the award. Attention all Touring Artists!
The next deadline to apply for the 2006-2008 State Touring Roster is August 8, 2005. Guidelines and application forms are now available on the Division's website: www.florida-arts.org. Florida-based artists or organizations who have a touring program in place are eligible to apply. Division Staff Changes
The Division has had a few staff changes over the past month. Erin Long who formerly served as the Division's Information Specialist and handled the Capitol Complex Exhibition Program has moved to Atlanta to pursue a new opportunity. Erin has served the Division for 12 years and is already missed greatly! Allison McCarthy will now be handling the Capitol Complex Exhibition Program, the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, the Poet Laureate Program, and the Florida Arts Recognition Award Program. The Division is also very happy to welcome Powell Burke who will be working through the Summer assisting with special projects and various tasks. Powell joins the Division from New College in Sarasota where he is studying Sociology. DCA is also delighted to welcome our new Director, Sandy Shaughnessy! Sandy is returning to the Martin House after a brief hiatus at the Old Capitol for the past year. Sandy replaces former director, Linda Downey who served the Division for over 18 years. Linda has moved on to new, exciting adventures and will surely be missed.

The City of Mesa, AZ announces a public art opportunity for an artist-designed passenger shelter at the intersection of Power Road and Baywood Avenue, near the Banner Baywood Medical Center. This site coincides with the City’s public art master plan and provides an excellent opportunity for artists, as it is a high-visibility location in a growing neighborhood. The total amount available for the project is $34,000. The budget must cover all expenses, including design fees, development of proposals/maquettes with neighborhood input, site preparation, materials, lighting feature, fabrication and installation. The competition is open to all professional artists. Failure to comply with submission requirements shall constitute an incomplete or invalid submission. The redevelopment of Denver Colorado's former Stapleton International Airport announces its initial public art opportunity with a commission of $100,000. The focus of this public art project located in a residential area is the ellipse at East 29th Avenue and Xenia Parkway that is also an important part of the larger system of parks and parkways at Stapleton. This extended median is an active place for walking, jogging and informal activities such as sports, picnicking or just relaxing. The Project Selection Committee considers this site as an opportunity for unique artwork appropriate to a residential part of the diverse urban community that is Stapleton. The Stapleton public art program is conducting an electronic application and selection process online as a pilot project in partnership with Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF). This online process entitled CaFÉ requires that all application images and materials be submitted in digital format. City of Scottsdale, AZ - WestWorld Project. The Scottsdale Public Art Program seeks artist/artist team(s) to create artwork(s) for WestWorld of Scottsdale, Arizona. WestWorld of Scottsdale is a premier, nationally recognized, user-friendly equestrian center and special events facility serving Scottsdale, Arizona and the local/regional community and target market visitors. It has consistently been identified as a key site for public art as it is an important community-gathering place. The facility hosts more than one hundred events annually (over four hundred use days). Artwork Installation to begin 2007. Art Budget: tentatively set for up to $1 million. A call for artists is issued for the thirteenth annual DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts to be held November 19-20, 2005 in DeLand, Florida. The festival, a juried fine art and fine craft outdoor festival offers $25,000 in prize money, a DeLand Museum of Art Permanent Collection Purchase Award, a Patron Purchase Program and attendance of 50-60 thousand people. MOCA GA is mounting an exhibition at its downtown Atlanta location of
photo-based works of art. The exhibition is open to all Southeastern artists, 18 years of age or older. The works can include other media, but the primary focus of the work must be photographic. Due to space constraints, we can not accept projected or video installations. All work submitted must have been created within the past 3 three years. Artists may enter up to 20 images of work, slides or CDs are acceptable, though CD's are preferred. There is no entry fee, however artists are responsible for all shipping/transportation of works of art. MOCA GA provides insurance from the time the work is received. $2,000 in purchase awards will be available. The U.S./Japan Creative Artists' Program is accepting applications. The Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission works cooperatively with the National Endowment for the Arts to sponsor The U.S/Japan Creative Artists' Program that supports up to five outstanding contemporary and traditional artists from the United States to spend a six-month residency in Japan to pursue creative work. The U.S./Japan program is extremely competitive; applicants should have regional or national recognition and anticipate a highly rigorous review of their work. Artists should have compelling reasons for wanting to work in Japan. Selected artists will receive: a monthly stipend for living expenses and a housing supplement, as well as an allowance for professional support services, up to $6,000 for round trip transportation for the artist, domestic partner and/or dependent children, a baggage/storage allowance, and a stipend for pre-departure Japanese language study in the United States. Florida Craftsmen's premier showcase for contemporary crafts, CraftArt 2005 will open October 29-30 2005 in the historic Coliseum in downtown St. Petersburg. CraftArt 2005 will be limited exclusively to 150-juried fine craft artists. 'Fine craft art' is defined as work which utilizes either the materials and/or processes associated with fine craft art. Paintings, drawings, photography, printmaking and/or commercially made works are not eligible. By signing this application, the exhibitor assures that he or she has direct, hands-on involvement in the creation and execution of all works to be exhibited; works are original, handmade by the artist and created within the last three years. No kits, molds, or embellishments are permitted. Artists/makers must be present with their work the weekend of the event. No artist representatives or substitutes are permitted. The CraftArt 2005 Committee reserves the right to make final interpretation of all rules of eligibility. Mark Richard Leach, Deputy Director at The Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte, North Carolina, will serve as the CraftArt 2005 juror. Five (5) $1,000 Awards of Excellence and ten (10) $500 Awards of Merit will be selected by the juror and will be awarded on the merit of the artists' body of work regardless of media, and pledged Patron Purchase Awards will be distributed during CraftArt 2005. The Naples Art Association announces Art Encounter 2005, October 15 – November 26, 2005 at the von Liebig Art Center, Naples. Art Encounter 2005 is a juried exhibition with over $3,000 in awards open to all artists residing in Florida. The Palladium Theater, in St. Petersburg, Florida is currently seeking an Audio Production Assistant. Working under the direction of the Production Manager the Audio Production Assistant will take on the role of production technician in the production of all stage events at the Palladium Theater. The Palladium Theater is seeking someone well versed in Theatrical Audio and very comfortable working in all other areas of Production including house management and box office in a pinch. The Palladium Theater’s clientele varies from community groups to professional companies. This position needs to float easily between these worlds and provide the same level of professionalism. Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour (PennPAT) is a program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) that was developed and is funded by the Vira I. Heinz Endowment, The Pew Charitable Trusts, the William Penn Foundation and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The purpose of PennPAT is to increase opportunities for professional Pennsylvania performing artists to obtain successful touring engagements. PennPAT awards grants, on a competitive basis, to presenters throughout the mid-Atlantic region (DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, OH, PA, the U.S. Virgin Islands, VA, WV) to enable them to present the work of eligible Pennsylvania-based performing artists. PennPAT also assists artists in advancing their own tour readiness and in improving their marketing and other tour management capabilities through grants, training and technical assistance.
