Karen Peterson is the Artistic Director of Peterson and Dancers
and the Excello Dance Space. She graduated from the Boston
Conservatory of Music and has been committed to quality performances,
educational possibilities and community outreach in Florida since
1989. In addition to the fellowship award, she has also been awarded
New Forms Florida Grants, an Artist Access Development Grant,
a “Stay Pure Award” from the Sauza Tequila Company
/ South Florida Art Center, a City of Miami Award for her work
with persons with disabilities and the first annual danceAble
Award from the Florida Dance Association and Tigertail Productions.
She has conducted workshops and produced performances throughout
the United States, Brazil, Italy and Scotland, and is a founding
member of “danceAble”, an annual conference of “mixed-ability”
research and “dancersImprovgroup”, an improvisational
womens troupe.
