Literature Fellowship Recipient
Silvia Curbelo, Tampa, Florida

Silvia Curbelo has received three Individual Artist Fellowships from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, all for poetry. Her most recent collection, Ambush, won the Main Street Rag Chapbook Competition and has just been published (www.mainstreetrag.com). She is the author of two previous collections, The Geography of Leaving (Silverfish Review Press) and The Secret History of Water, available from Anhinga Press (www.anhinga.org).

Other awards include poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Cintas Foundation and the Writer’s Voice, and the Jessica Nobel-Maxwell Memorial Poetry Prize from American Poetry Review. Her poems have been published widely in literary journals and more than two dozen anthologies, including The Body Electric: America’s Best Poetry (W. W. Norton), Snakebird: Thirty Years of Anhinga Poets (Anhinga Press), and Norton’s Anthology of Latino Literature (forthcoming in 2005). A native of Cuba, Silvia lives in Tampa, and is managing editor for Organica magazine.
