Florida Studio Theatre created their “Write a Play” program in 1991 to inspire creativity, promote literacy, strengthen language and communication skills, and instill an appreciation of the arts through quality playwriting and instruction in grades K-12. Through over a decade of positive outcomes, Florida Studio Theatre has proven the program’s effectiveness as a means of improving students’ self-esteem, school attitudes, and overall academic achievement. This high energy show utilizes both scripted performance and improvisational technique to teach students the basic tenets of setting, character, conflict, and dialogue. Using these key elements, Florida Studio Theatre’s team of actors/teaching artists lead students in the creation of an original play. All performances are accompanied by workshops that include individual instruction.
