Division of Cultural Affairs Offers Grant Writing Workshop in Avon Park

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Secretary of State Glenda E. Hood announces the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs will present a free grant writing workshop in Avon Park, Florida on Thursday, December 11, 2003, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Hosted by the Heartland Cultural Alliance, the workshop is open to the public and will provide participants with a general overview of the services and programs offered by the Division of Cultural Affairs as well as assist applicants in preparing applications to the Cultural Support Grants Program. Topics covered will include: how to apply for Division grants, who is eligible, general tips for competitive applications, and information on how to effectively administer a Division grant once it is awarded.

“The mission of the Cultural Support Grants Program is to foster excellence and diversity in art and culture for all Floridians,” said Secretary Hood. “Our knowledgeable staff will offer potential grant applicants invaluable technical assistance, grant writing tips, and best practice examples.”

Through these grants, the Division encourages a commitment to outreach and educational services to underserved areas and populations, and increased access for persons with disabilities. Funded by the Florida Legislature, the Cultural Support Grants program supports non-profit cultural organizations, recurring cultural programs, museums and non-arts organizations. Two types of funding are offered: General Program Support and Specific Projects. Organizations can receive funding for either General Program Support or a Specific Project through this program, but not both. Discipline categories include: Dance, Discipline Service, Folk Arts, Interdisciplinary, Literature, Media Arts, Multidisciplinary, Museums/Art, Museums/Non-art, Music, Sponsor/Presenter, Community Theatre, Professional Theatre, and Visual Arts. Grant applications must be postmarked by Friday, January 16, 2004.
