| TALLAHASSEE, FL –
Secretary of State Glenda E. Hood announced today an exhibition of photographs
by Melbourne Beach artist Jeffrey Berger. The exhibition entitled “First
Light” will be on display from October 11, 2004 through January
9, 2005 in the Cabinet Meeting Room.
“The Department of State is pleased to host this exhibition,”
said Secretary Hood. “Jeffrey Berger’s vibrant photographs
remind us all of the precious yet fragile nature of Florida’s
wildlife.”

Nature photographer Jeffrey Berger lives on the barrier island of Melbourne
Beach – its 20 miles of unspoiled coastal habitat is the perfect
environment for capturing some of Florida’s most protected species
on film. And, with close proximity to the protected areas of Pelican
Island and Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Berger has created
a series of photographs about Florida’s nature which serve to
educate the public. “Public exhibition of nature photography serves
as a medium for environmental education,” says Berger. “Pictures
of graceful egrets foraging for food or of an anhinga mother raising
her young make an important statement: that these beautiful creatures
are precious and worthy of protections for future generations.”
Jeffrey Berger moved to Florida three years ago after a 25-year long
career in technology and marketing. He previously worked as a Producer/Director
of educational and commercial films and as President/CEO of a marketing
and communications firm based in New York. Inspired by the incredible
nature found in his own backyard, Berger re-discovered his interest
in photography and began experimenting with the new digital medium.
His works have since received several photography awards and were recently
featured in Nature Photographer magazine.
