TALLAHASSEE, FL – Secretary of State Glenda E. Hood announced
today an exhibition of mixed-media works by Tallahassee artist Kenneth
Reshard. The exhibition entitled “A Time to Grow” will be
on display from October 4, 2004 through January 6, 2005 in the
Old Capitol Gallery. A
reception will take place on Friday, November 5, 2004 at 6:30 p.m.
“The Department of State welcomes the opportunity to exhibit the
works of emerging, local artists like Kenneth Reshard,” said Secretary
Hood. “The Capitol Complex Exhibition Program serves Florida’s
individual artists by providing a public venue for displaying their
work while at the same time giving the public the unique exposure to
contemporary visual art.”
Working in a variety of artistic media from ceramics, painting, and
drawing, to printmaking, graphics, and collage, Reshard often combines
multi-media techniques in a single piece. Utilizing images of African
textiles, cubist fractures, and modern frontality, his pieces are rich
in surface quality and symbolic expression. His use of deep colors,
gold leaf, and rhythmic patterns create interesting compositions that
are almost musical.
Kenneth Reshard attended Tallahassee Community College and Florida A&M
University where he majored in Fine Arts. For the past several years,
he has worked as a freelance graphic artist and is currently pursuing
a second degree in graphic design. His works have been included in numerous
local galleries and art shows. He formerly taught arts and crafts for
the Boys and Girls Club, was a board member of 621 Gallery, and was
a member of Florida Craftsmen.
This exhibition is part of the Florida Department of State, Division
of Cultural Affairs’ Capitol Complex Exhibition Program. The Old
Capitol Gallery is located in the Capitol Complex in the Lower Level
Rotunda of the Old Capitol. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.
