TALLAHASSEE, FL – Secretary of State Glenda E. Hood announces an exhibition of environmental photographic works entitled, Two Rivers – Two Lands. The exhibit will be on display at the Arts Learning Gallery from June 11 through September 5, 2003. Artist Lew Wilson has created a series of hand-colored black and white photographs that explore two north Florida rivers, the Aucilla and the Apalachicola. Each river flows from Georgia through northern Florida to the Gulf of Mexico, yet each river is distinctly different. Lew Wilson states, “Remarkably, the Aucilla remains much as it has always been with its subtle flow and humble beauty in opposition to the more commercialized Apalachicola.” Capturing both beauty and spirituality in Florida’s natural landscape, this photo essay addresses Wilson’s own environmental concerns and makes a statement about man’s overwhelming presence in nature. Lew Wilson has spent most of his life in Florida. His works are included in the Denver Art Museum, the Art Museum at Miami University in Ohio, the Greenville Museum of Art in North Carolina, and the Tampa Museum of Art. In 1994, he was commissioned by Florida Southern College’s Frank Lloyd Wright Program to photograph Wright’s architecture in the early 19th century. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Florida International University. The Arts Learning Gallery is located on the first level of the R.A. Gray Building, home of the Museum of Florida History, at 500 South Bronough Street in downtown Tallahassee. Hours are: Monday-Friday 9:00-4:30, Saturday 10:00-4:30, and Sunday Noon-4:30.
