Kenneth Mitchell’s interest in drawing and painting began at a very early age. Observation and experimentation were his primary teachers. Art school was not a practical option at the time, but his creative interests were satisfied in the pursuit of a career in Architecture. Mr. Mitchell attended Princeton University and received the degree of MFA in Architecture in 1951.

Most of his works are tranquil scenes without human presence. His works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Mitchell worked in oil but his love was with the acrylic media. He liked the immediacy of the media, which enabled him to paint quickly and make adjustments as he worked a painting. An advocate for acrylics, he encouraged his students in the use of the media. He has left a legacy behind in his students, sharing with them the knowledge of his craft, talent and encouragement.

The Englewood Art Center became the beneficiary of a very generous endowment and collection of paintings from the late Kenneth Mitchell. In turn the Center donated two of his works to the Department of State’s Art Collection in an effort to share his talent with the people of Florida.
