"Wood Duck," 2004
Digital Photograph
23" x 30"
Jeffrey Berger has photographed much of the nature found on the barrier
island of Melbourne Beach – its 20 miles of unspoiled coastal
habitat is the perfect environment for capturing some of Florida’s
most protected species on film. And, with close proximity to the protected
areas of Pelican Island and Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge, Berger
has created a series of photographs about Florida’s nature which
serve to educate the public. He donated the photographWood
Duck in honor of a friend who recently passed away.
"My good friend, Peter Schutté, and
I found this dabbler during a day excursion. Last week, Peter passed
away after a long illness. A dedicated conservationist, Peter loved
nature and wildlife. He served on the Board of Directors of the Sea
Turtle Preservation Society, volunteered time as docent for the Brevard
Zoo, and created interpretative educational programs for the Sebastian
Inlet State Park. This one is for Pete."
Jeffrey Berger moved to Florida three years ago after a 25-year long
career in technology and marketing. He previously worked as a Producer/Director
of educational and commercial films and as President/CEO of a marketing
and communications firm based in New York. Inspired by the incredible
nature found in his own backyard, Berger re-discovered his interest
in photography and began experimenting with the new digital medium.
His works have since received several photography awards and were recently
featured in Nature Photographer magazine.
