Duane Hanson
Sculptor
1925 - 1996
Inducted in 1992
A leading figure in contemporary sculpture, Duane Hanson (1925-1996) adopted south Florida as his home in 1965. The style Hanson called "superrealism" caught the attention of the art world in the 1960's and drew popular and critical accolades. Critic Kirk Varnedoe writes, "He has actively sought an art that is aggressively anti-elitist, directly accessible to many different viewings of the public on widely different levels of understanding."
