John N. Ringling
Patron, Collector
1866 - 1936
Inducted in 1987
A celebrity of circus fame, John N. Ringling (1866-1936) amassed a fortune through his entertainment interests and business ventures. He and his wife built a museum adjacent to their Sarasota Bay home to house their collection of 17th and 18th century Baroque art. Ringling willed the museum, the residence, and the surrounding estate to "the people of the State of Florida". Today, the newly renovated John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art remains one of the premier museums of the Southeast.
