Winter park artist Rick Lang is a documentary photographer and educator whose work reflects his interest in the history and culture of the American South. His current work shows how rural signs reflect the social landscape and illustrates the role that publicly written expressions play in the description of local society. Subjects of his work include expressions of political ideals, love, hate, religion and commerce. In many ways, those who erect these signs or paint the graffiti are expressing basic American dreams and freedoms. They may be simple or crude in their construction but are effective in the way they are designed to reach their intended audience.
