SUBMISSION INFORMATION
Established in 1979, Florida's Art in State Buildings Program acquires
artwork for new public facilities built with state funds. It requires
that up to .5% of the construction appropriation be set aside to acquire
artwork for permanent display in the public areas in, on or around
that facility. This includes construction at the state universities
and colleges.
- Calls to Artists are issued periodically with project descriptions
and requirements.
- Artists decide if their work "fits" a project's description and then submit an entry to that project.
- Artists may enter multiple projects but, because each project
has its own art selection committee, they must send a separate entry
for
each project.
- Artists enter by sending the following items to each of the projects
that interest them. They send the entry to the address on the project's description page.
- Entries must be received by 5 pm on the deadline
date.
SUBMISSION ITEMS
To enter each project, send
the following items to the address provided on the project's description page (see links at right to current projects):
NOTE: Submission requirements for university projects may vary.
Statement
Send a brief Letter of Interest that explains why your artwork is perfect for
this project and how your submitted slides address the project requirements.
This should not yet be a site-specific proposal.
Resume
Send a current professional resume, emphasizing public art experience,
public collections and public commissions.
Images
NOTE: ASB projects now ONLY accept digital images submitted on CD.
Send a minimum of 10 & maximum of 20 digital images on a disposable CD. Write the artist's name & the project name on the CD. Images should be in .JPG format with a minimum resolution of approximately 800x600 pixels (higher resolutions like 1900x1500 pixels provide sharper projected images).
The filename of each image should be 1) the artist's last name, 2) the corresponding image number on the ID Sheet and 3) the artwork title (use representative words of a long title). If the image is a "detail," please indicate that as well. Example: Smith_08_PinkHeron_det
Be sure to review your CD and insure that the images on the CD are in the same order as the images on the ID Sheet.
The first five artworks presented will receive initial review. Don't forget to provide the committee with details/close-ups of large or complex artworks.
Because the initial review is a "blind" review, no identifying information should appear on the images.
CDs should be formatted for the MS Windows environment. Any masking/borders should be black, not white. Artwork with sound or motion may be submitted as short MP3s.
ID Sheet
Include an image identification page(s) that provides, for each submitted image, 1) thumbnail image of the work, 2) image number, 3) title of work, 4) medium, 5) dimensions, 6) date of work and 7) price of work or amount of commission.
The ID Sheet must be headed with the specific project name (and number, if provided), and the artist's name, address, phone number and email address.
NOTE: Statement, resume & Image ID Sheet may be included (as Word documents) on a submitted CD but a hard copy of each of the three text items must also be provided.
CDs will not be returned. Because the selection of artwork by volunteer committees takes a great deal of time, you may not be notified of their decision for several weeks.
Submission Tips!
Galleries and artist's representatives are encouraged to submit materials
for their artists.
CRITERIA
Participating artists must
have reached a certain level of expertise and recognition in their medium.
Their resumes should illustrate that they have met two
of the following criteria:
- the artist's works are included in private, public, corporate
or museum collections;
- the artist has received awards, grants or fellowships;
- the artist has completed other public commissions on a similar
scale;
- the artist has participated in exhibitions at major museums or galleries.
