Leadership Exchanges in Arts and Disability (LEAD) Conference
August 22-24, 2008
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

This year the Kennedy Center is pleased to partner with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, VSA arts of Florida, and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs to bring the 2008 LEAD (Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability) Conference and Training to Fort Lauderdale, FL.  The conference will be held August 22-24, 2008.

Drawing on national and local resources, the conference will provide an array of opportunities to:

  • Discuss issues ranging from physical and programmatic access to ticketing policies and marketing strategies;
  • Share ideas and learn what has been successful at other arts organizations and cultural institutions;
  • Engage in an open dialogue with representatives from the Disability Rights Section of the Department of Justice;
  • Learn about best practices and how to develop sound policies; and

Participate in stimulating and enriching discussions with leaders in the field.

VSA arts of Florida is offering a limited number of scholarships for Florida residents to cover the cost of the full conference registration fee.  Please visit www.vsafl.org for the registration form and more information.


November 6 - 8, 2008
Fourth Annual, Other Words: A Conference of Literary Magazines and Independent Publishers.
Sponsored by the Florida Literary Arts Coalition and Flagler College. This year’s conference will be held at Flagler College in Saint Augustine, Florida, and will begin with a Thursday night reading on November 6, 2008. Panels, readings, and workshops will be held all day Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8.  

Conference registration
$40 for members of FLAC institutions.
$70 for nonmembers.
FLAC member schools/institutions can bring five students for free.

Bookfair table registration
$50 for FLAC members
$75 for nonmembers.  All Bookfair registrants can register additional staff for $25 each.
 The Confererence registration fee includes a Saturday award luncheon.

Additional options:
Friday lunch and workshop with editors.   $30.00   (includes a box lunch)
One-on-one sessions with editors.   A 30-minute conference to discuss a writer’s work:  $30 fee.
