About the Program

The purpose of the State Touring Program is to bring live performance to every corner of the state. Funding to support this program is based on annual legislative appropriation. For more information visit http://www.florida-arts.org/programs/touring/

How it Works

  1. Florida-based artists or organizations apply to be on the roster. A peer review panel meets every two years to select a new roster. The next deadline for artists will be in 2013.

  2. Presenters (any non-profit organization) can apply for fee support to host one or more artists featured in the Roster. The presenter application deadline is every May 1st and the artists must be selected from the current Roster.

  3. Audiences across the state benefit from dance, music, and theatre by some of the state's finest performing artists!

Fee support for the 2012-2014 roster is available between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2014. Presenters must work directly with the artist to arrange booking details.

Viva Florida

Viva Florida logo

In 2013, Florida will reach a significant milestone unlike any other in the history of the United States. It's the 500th anniversary of the cultural phenomenon that began when Ponce de León and his crew walked ashore on Florida's east coast and named it "La Florida." What makes this anniversary so unique is that de León's convoy of explorers was the first group of Europeans to document such a landing and give a name to Florida. They were also the first recorded Europeans to explore any part of what's now the United States of America.

Florida's documented material history dates back more than 12,000 years earlier than 1513, to American Indians, who were the original pioneers. But Spain's claim in 1513 began a new era in human history that saw many nationalities come together as the foundation that eventually formed the United States.

The legacy of Spanish Florida started with Ponce de León and was further established by Pedro Menéndez when he founded St. Augustine, the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in America, in 1565.

The Florida Department of State and its many partners are planning enriching events and experiences across the state. The Viva Florida website will provide information about Florida's history and how the entire state will mark this important anniversary.

Florida Arts on Tour Roster artists with a Viva Florida logo have made available specific programming that addresses this history!  Viva Florida programming is in addition to their regular programs and must be applied for separately; the same fee subsidy structure as for all state touring projects is also applicable for these bookings.

In the Wings

In the Wings promotes touring artists who have received strong recommendations from the peer panel, but do not yet qualify for Division fee support. These are fine artists who deserve your consideration, so please take a few minutes to look over them. You must contact individually to arrange all bookings and fee details.
