Artist and Activities
Cello, piano, and percussion make up this trio of highly skilled musicians who have traveled nationally to every region of this country and internationally to venues in Australia, Russia, Ukraine, the Caribbean, and England. The award-winning ensemble has produced nine theatre works and has toured for ten years. With the addition of an actor, the CORE Ensemble has conceived and now performs three unique works of Chamber Music Theatre that are distinctly original, educational, and entertaining.
The CORE Ensemble’s programs are suitable for adults and college and high school students, with residencies for middle school students.

Ain't I a Woman!
This program celebrates the life and times of four powerful African-American women: Zora Neale Hurston, Sojourner Truth, Clementine Hunter, and Fannie Lou Hamer. Music performed during the piece includes works by Charles Mingus, Max Roach, Diane Monroe, Thelonius Monk, Bessie Smith, Memphis Slim, Duke Pearson, Coleridge Taylor-Perkinson, and Frederick Tillis. Suitable for high school students, college and university students, and adults.

Los Valientes
A new music theatre work featuring three renowned Latin American figures: muralist Diego Rivera, slain human rights activist Archbishop Oscar Romero of San Salvador, and Mexican-American outlaw Joaquin Murieta (the basis for the Zorro legend). Popular, folk, and concert music from Mexico and Central America is featured along with original compositions by Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Osvaldo Golijov, and Miguel DeMurga.

Mona Lisa Speaks
In 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre and stored in a Paris apartment closet, then released in Florence in 1913. This show takes place in the apartment where Mona Lisa comes to life. Music by Debussy and Stravinsky are featured along with new compositions.

Tres Vidas
This piece combines theatre, music, and Latin culture in the telling of the lives of three extraordinary women: Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, Argentine poet Alfonsina Storni, and Salvadorean peasant-activist Rufina Amaya. Music is by Michael DeMurga, Pablo Ortiz, Astor Piazzola, Osvaldo Golijov, and from the traditional folk and popular music of Latin America.
