Description
This lively ensemble enthralls audiences with traditional Calypso, contemporary classics, and original compositions for the steel pan and world music. Grounded in classical and jazz traditions combined with years of cultural research of Caribbean rhythms, the ensemble offers students and adults the opportunity to cross cultural barriers and discover the amazing influences from around the world that came together to create the steel pan.
Available for Tour
-
An American Carnival
A concert performance that mixes the sound and culture of the Caribbean through Calypso, Soca, and Latin music with classical, American pop, and original compositions. This is available as a solo group performance or with an orchestra as part of a Pops or Family series.
-
Pan By Storm
With a storyteller and accompanying musicians, this is a musical and historical dramatization of the evolution of the steel pan. Historical ensembles include African drumming, bottle and spoon bands, metal bands (pots, pans, and tin cans), a marching band, and Tamboo Bamboo (instruments made from large bamboo). School programs are available for K-12 that last 50 minutes to 1 hour.
-
Life Beat Residency Program
An empowering self-discovery through hands-on investigation of rhythm. The program is suitable for 1st through 6th grades and runs 1 hour. Children create homemade instruments and learn about musical counting, pitch, and how instruments work.
